Hyundai has revealed a couple of impressive-looking electric concept cars in China, and if these give a hint of the direction where the brand is headed, the future looks very exciting. The Earth (SUV) and Venus (sedan) models, which will be introduced at Auto China 2026 in Beijing on April 24. They are the clearest indications to date of Hyundai’s future lineup of electric vehicles, although both bear the Ioniq name.

Earth Concept: Rugged Meets Refined
The design feature of the Earth SUV is one single curve, regular skid plates, and other protective elements typically found on credible off-roaders. The highlight at the front side is a large offset along with very sharp LED lights and daytime running lights. Silver alloy wheels lend a touch of elegance to the entire figure. At the back, a softly rounded line keeps the rear from appearing stiff. Some design elements are still a secret, with the company stating that they will be revealed at the Beijing show.

Venus Concept: The Elegant Counterpart
Venus takes a very different approach. It’s a low-slung sedan like an “eggshell” design language that features a lightweight roof structure, a front bumper shaped for aerodynamic efficiency, and transparent rear spoiler. Segmented glass roof sections bring in plenty of natural light, and the dashboard is impressively minimal, with just a compact display and very few physical controls.

The cabin is built around a flat floor and wide-opening doors, with four individual “air-hug” seats featuring air-filled cushioning as the centrepiece. It feels more deliberate and driver-focused, with a minimalist interior philosophy that trades spectacle for precision.
The cabin even incorporates hidden map patterns of Beijing as a subtle nod to the market it’s built for. Together, the two concepts frame Hyundai’s range of ambition quite well: one rugged and spacious, the other sleek and driver-centric. However, a few design elements are still being kept under wraps, with Hyundai confirming they’ll be revealed at the Beijing show itself.

A Design Reset, Not Just a Refresh
The concepts signal a break from the retro, pixel-heavy aesthetic that has been characteristic of Hyundai’s current Ioniq models. Simon Loasby, head of the Hyundai Design Center said: “We chose to be ‘the origin’, something entirely new, recognisable at a glance from a distance, with a powerful presence on the road.”

Eyes on China
Both models are notably made for the Chinese market, which shows how Hyundai is committed to the NEV (New Energy Vehicle) competition there. Hyundai is not just bringing fresh designs, but according to Auto Car India, they are also equipping their cars with autonomous driving capabilities. China’s EV market has been developing jointly with local companies, which means that these models are not likely to be mere concept cars when they go into production. It is extremely competitive, and the locals have set very high standards.
Calling these concepts after planets instead of just using the usual Ioniq numbering system (Ioniq 5, 6, 7) seems like a change in direction. The complete reveal, alongside Hyundai’s plan for electrification, will take place on April 24 in Beijing.
The automobile industry worldwide has always found Beijing as a significant place. These cars displayed here often dictate the driving choice of the people worldwide. If these new ideas get good feedback, they will likely be launched in other markets as well.
