Sunrisers Hyderabad has announced the replacement of their injured pacer David Payne. Payne is ruled out of the IPL 2026 because of an ankle injury. In place of him, SRH has picked Gerald Coetzee for the rest of the IPL 2026 for INR 2 crore. Payne has played two matches and picked two wickets.

Initially, Payne joined the squad as a replacement for another injured player, Jack Edwards. According to reports from ESPN, SRH has also lost their overseas all-rounder Brydon Carse because of a hand injury a couple of days ago.

Later, SRH signed Sri Lankan pacer Dilshan Madushanka as a replacement for Brydon Carse. Now, SRH has signed Gerald Coetzee as a replacement for Payne.

Who is Gerald Coetzee?

Gerald Coetzee is a 26-year-old South African right-arm fast bowler known for his raw speed, frequently over 145kmph. As per ESPN Cricinfo, he has established himself as one of the most reliable bowlers for South Africa’s national setup. He has played a total of 4 test matches and taken 14 wickets with an average of 23.57 and best figures of 3/37.

Also, he has played 14 ODI matches and picked 31 wickets with an average of 23.22 and best figures of 4/44. He played 18 T20 Internationals and picked 22 wickets with an average of 25.90 and best figure of 3/31.

In short, he has played a total of 36 international matches. In the Indian Premier League, he has played for two teams before joining SRH. He was part of the Mumbai Indians and the Gujarat Titans. In his IPL career, he has played 14 matches and picked 15 wickets with an average of 31.46 and an economy of 10.37. His best figures in the IPL are 4/34.
