At 5:35 AM, a magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir, at a shallow depth of approximately 10 KM below the surface. The epicenter is located near Pattan, close to Gulmarg, west of Srinagar.
Tremors from this earthquake were felt in parts of Pakistan.
As per the reports, most of the hanging objects were seen to sway back and forth briefly, but a strong force at the beginning prompted many to evacuate their homes very quickly.

Epicentre and Regional Impact
According to the NCS, an earthquake took place approximately 84 kilometers west of Pahalgam and 164 kilometers west-southwest of Kargil (in the Kashmir Valley) in both high-altitude regions and/or the lowland regions of the Kashmir Valley.
As per the reports by TOI, the earthquake came just hours after another earthquake (magnitude 4.6) occurred at approximately 3:30 A.M. in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, emphasizing active seismic zones that continue to produce significant seismic hazard potential.
Early Observations
Social media has provided reports of the earthquake, with individuals (including Jahangir Sofi) posting photographs of shaking from the earthquake, and many people are speculating that the true magnitude may be close to 4.8.

As of now, authorities continue to monitor for aftershocks. No significant disruptions have been reported in Baramulla. Due to the shallow depth of the earthquake, the shaking was felt in bordering countries.
