There is still uncertainty over whether Pakistan will participate in the T20 2026 World Cup, with only a few days until the start of the tournament on February 7 in India and Sri Lanka.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi recently threatened to pull Pakistan out of the tournament until they receive direction from the government or Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. But, as per the latest reports, Naqvi has specified that the tickets to Colombo, Sri Lanka has been booked.

PCB Chairman Naqvi’s Stance and the Government’s Pending Decision
As Naqvi noted in his comments to Pakistani media, his final decision will come from higher authorities than his own, leaving the cricket world waiting in anticipation.
Following the announcement of Bangladesh’s withdrawal from the T20 World Cup, Scotland was added to the tournament. This has also contributed to the speculation surrounding whether Pakistan will choose to play in the T20 World Cup or not.
Team Travel Plans and Alternative Options

Pakistan’s cricket team has made flight reservations to travel to Colombo with Australia via Air Lanka from Lahore on Monday. According to sources quoted through Telecom Asia by News18, plans are still under uncertainty before takeoff. The indication of logistical readiness suggests the PCB expects to receive clarification before departure.
Potential India Match Forfeit
Some reports in the Pakistani media indicate that the PCB is considering a narrow form of protest by forfeiting only the match against India. According to News18, this decision is contingent upon how well they perform against the Netherlands and the USA. This would avoid a total withdrawal but still serve to express their displeasure.

ICC Reactions and Possible Sanctions
According to various reports collected by News18, the International Cricket Council has taken issue with Naqvi’s aggressive manner, and there are many different opinions about what happens to Pakistan if they leave.
BCCI’s Position on Security
As for how safe it would be for Bangladesh to play, BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla stated that they had provided Bangladesh with complete security, but that their decision to withdraw at such a late date had made it much more difficult to swap games. Shukla indicated that these late changes are difficult on everyone, including BCCI and players, via ANI as reported in News18.
| Potential ICC Sanctions | Description |
| Suspension of bilateral cricket | Halts all series with other nations |
| Exclusion from Asia Cup | Bars entry to regional tournament |
| No NOC policy by member boards | Limits foreign players in PSL |
Conflicting Reports on Final Confirmation
As per the reports by both ABP Live and Republic World, PCB will accept the ICC’s decision to approve travel. However, News18 continues to indicate that no government approval has been given as of 16:28 IST. Iceland’s humorous statements about their readiness to replace teams are a source of levity in this rather long wait.
There is yet no official confirmation of Pakistan taking part in the 2026 T20 World Cup. However, Naqvi seems confident that tomorrow will bring good news, and direct travel from Islamabad continues to keep all hope alive.
