As per the available data and footage, RR Skipper was seen using a device that looked like a vape during the match. The incident happened during the recent match between the Rajasthan Royals vs Punjab Kings in IPL 2026. The footage quickly went viral on social media. Now, many people are asking, ” Will Parag get banned? This article will help you find all the relevant details.

What really happened?

According to the reports, a live broadcast camera captured RR skipper Riyan Parag in the dressing room using a device that looks like a vape. He was seen inhaling and exhaling from the device. The moment occurred in the 16th over of RR’s run chase and the clip quickly went viral on social media. He was just sitting normally with his teammates and was using the device, as per visuals.

He also grabbed attention because of his poor performance in the current season of IPL. However, there has been no official confirmation from the IPL or BCCI that the device was 100% vape, but seeing the visuals, it looks like a vape only.

What consequences could Riyan Parag face after this incident?

This is not just about smoking; the issue is bigger because of Indian Law and IPL standards. Here are the three main reasons:

1. Vaping is Illegal in India

As per Indian law, e-cigarettes are officially banned under the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act (PECA), 2019. Also, first-time offenders can face:

  • Jail up to 1 year
  • Fine up to ₹1 lakh

2. Public Image and Role Model Issue

As everyone knows, IPL players are global icons:

  • Various young fans see matches
  • It goes against the professional image expected from players
  • Such actions can be seen as promoting banned products

3. IPL Discipline and Code of Conduct

Vaping is not a standard cricket offence, such as ball tampering, but the BCCI has strict rules about:

  • Player behaviour
  • Maintaining professionalism
  • Bringing the game into disrepute

What punishment can the BCCI impose on the RR skipper?

Riyan Parag

Many are asking, can the BCCI ban Riyan Parag? The answer to this question is yes, but only if they see it as serious misconduct. BCCI usually bans players in situations like doping, corruption/fixing and serious code violations. Also, under Clause 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct for players and officials, the match referee has the authority to issue official warnings, dock part of the player’s match fee and impose a suspension. Even if BCCI takes action, Rajasthan Royals may issue an internal warning of a code of conduct penalty. Also, franchise reputation may be affected.

This is not the first time that RR management has faced an issue; earlier, the team manager of RR, Romi Bhinder, was spotted using a mobile phone while sitting in the dugout. As per the PMOA protocol, using a phone is a violation. However, the team managers are allowed to use phones in the dressing room but not in the dugout.

Has This Happened Before in the IPL?

Yes, the same situation happened in the IPL 2020, where Aaron Finch was seen using a vape. But the major difference is that the tournament was in the UAE, so the Indian Law (PECA) did not apply.

Punjab Kings gets a harsh reality check: here’s what went wrong

While the controversy of Parag dominated the headlines, the actual match story was different. Punjab Kings suffered their first defeat of the season, even after a strong performance. While batting first, the Punjab Kings scored 222 runs on the board, which is a strong target, but the Rajasthan Royals chased it in 19.2 overs.
