Nuwan Thushara in Royal Challengers Bengaluru

Sri Lankan fast bowler Nuwan Thushara on Thursday sought a court order to get his playing rights in the ongoing IPL after the country’s cricket board refused to give him an NOC because of failed fitness tests. Also, as per Deccan Herald, Nuwan Thushara has filed a case in the Colombo District court, seeking an order directing Sri Lanka Cricket to issue the NOC. The Sri Lankan Bowler is connected with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru for INR 1.6 crore.

The case is said to be heard on April 9. As per the details, he has played around 30+ international matches for his country since 2022 and has pleaded that his contract with the SLC ended on March 31 and has no desire for extension.

As per The Times of India, in his request, Thushara has named SLC President Shammi Silva, Secretary Bandhula Dissanayake, Treasurer Sujeewa Godaliyadda, and CEO Ashley de Silva as defendants. Thushara has also played in the IPL 2024 and 2025 editions after getting NOCs from SLC.

But now, the board has not provided him with the 2026 NOC because he did not meet the fitness standards. Thushara also said that his current fitness levels are consistent with those maintained throughout his career and that the same standards had not prevented SLC from getting NOCs in the past. He was also warned that failing to get the NOC would force him to be replaced by his IPL and in return, it would result in a loss of income and career chances.

As per espncricinfo, two other Sri Lankan cricketers, Wanindu Hasaranga and Matheesha Pathirana, are also facing injuries and have not yet taken their fitness tests in order to earn the NOCs to play in the IPL. KKR head coach Pathirana said on 20th March that Pathirana would not be available for KKR’s initial games and might join the team around the middle of April.

Talking about Matheesha Pathirana’s situation, it’s more uncertain but not final.
