Reason Behind Tremors Being Felt So Widely
It is because of the very tectonically active area that earthquakes coming from the Hindu Kush region are often felt not only in the country of origin but also in the neighboring ones.
This place is actually along the border between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates which are colliding with each other. Due to the fact that this quake was at a great depth, its wave motion spread over a larger area. This is why even after hundreds of kilometers people felt the vibrations.
Afghanistan Lies in High Seismic Zone
Afghanistan is situated in one of the most earthquake-prone zones of the world and has experienced numerous strong earthquakes, especially in the Hindu Kush region, in recent years. The region’s mountainous topography and geological formations are major factors contributing to its high vulnerability to seismic movements.
The government of Afghanistan is in the process of finding out how the latest earthquake has affected the people and the situation. Details are not yet available.
