Pakistan’s campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 has been hit by an off-field controversy after a member of the national squad was reportedly fined for misbehaving with a female hotel staff member in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The player’s identity has not been publicly revealed, but the incident has drawn attention within cricket circles and added to the team’s tough tournament.

According to the reports, the incident occurred while the Pakistan squad was staying at the Golden Crown Hotel in Kandy during the tournament. In addition, A female housekeeping staff member allegedly complained that the player behaved inappropriately with her. The situation reportedly escalated to the point where the staff member shouted for help, prompting other hotel employees to intervene and de-escalate the matter.
Team management instantly stepped in after the complaint. Pakistan’s team manager, Navaid Cheema, reportedly apologised to the hotel management and imposed an internal fine on the player for misconduct. In addition, the action was taken to solve the situation instantly and save it from turning into a bigger diplomatic or legal issue during the international tournament.
Reports say the incident took place shortly before Pakistan’s Super Eight match against Sri Lanka in the tournament. Though the players continue to stay unnamed, the matter is expected to be reviewed further by the Pakistan cricket board’s disciplinary committee once the team returns home. Moreover, additional punishment cannot be ruled out depending on the result of the inquiry.
