LeT to Attack the Red Fort and Religious Sites in Chandni Chowk

Hindustan Times and other news outlets have reported tightened security in Delhi following the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror alert. In this, the Red Fort and crowded places like Delhi’s Chandni Chowk area are considered to be the primary targets.

Reports suggest that the terrorists are planning an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in Delhi’s sensitive zone. There’s also a broader scope to this attack, as alerts suggest many major temples across India remain on LeT’s radar for potential strikes.

“Blast alert in front of the Red Fort in Delhi. Terrorists may target a temple in Chandni Chowk. Lashkar-e-Taiba is plotting an IED attack. They are planning a major terrorist attack in India to avenge the February 6th mosque blast in Islamabad, Pakistan. Major temples in the country can be targeted by Lashkar-e-Taiba,”

Notably, the first set of inputs regarding terror attacks by LeT in Delhi came even before the Republic Day celebrations. Similar terror attack threat inputs were received after the February 6 suicide blast at a mosque in Islamabad.

It is said that the plot is linked to the Islamabad blast, where 31 people died, and over 160 were injured, and the terror group aims to take revenge for that.

According to the IS statement, the Islamic State group had claimed responsibility for the mosque attack.

“Upon reaching the inner gate of the temple, the martyrdom-seeker detonated his explosive vest amidst the Shi’a congregation, inflicting a large number of deaths and injuries.”

Security Measures to Prevent Red Fort Attack

Authorities are on high alert in Delhi, especially with the ongoing AI Summit 2026 and the recent Mahashivratri festival. Officials have heightened surveillance, with continuous CCTV monitoring and intensive vehicle inspections in the targeted area.

Bomb Disposal Squads, Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs), extra personnel from the Delhi Police, Dog Squads, etc., have been positioned at these locations. Continuous attempts are being made to verify the specifics of the current IED threat.

Note that the security officials are taking extensive measures for the Lashkar-e-Taiba plot, but the officials have urged the public not to panic. Instead, support them by reporting any suspicious activity or objects.

The 2025 Red Fort Blast

The terror alert comes nearly three months after the November 10, 2025, Red Fort suicide blast. It was one of the deadliest terror incidents in Delhi in recent years, killing 12 people and injuring over 20.

Ammonium nitrate-based explosives in the Hyundai i20, driven by Umar Mohammad alias Umar Un Nabi, a doctor associated with Al-Falah University in Faridabad, were triggered near the Red Fort Metro station.

Reports confirmed the blast took place hours after security agencies recovered nearly 2,900 kg of explosives in Faridabad and arrested key module members, including Dr. Muzammil and Dr. Adil Rather.

Further investigation revealed that Umar allegedly detonated the blast prematurely due to mounting pressure from the crackdown on the network. Lives were impacted by the blast, and fear is mounting with the current terror alerts in Delhi.
