Apple is gearing up to launch its iPhone 18 Pro series later this year. Following the success of the 16 and 17 series, hype is building around how users will react to the next. Notably, the launch of the 18 series is expected to happen in September 2026 (~7 months), but some leaks have pointed to the biggest upgrade for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models. What are they, and should you upgrade? Let’s discuss that in this article.
Apple iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max Leak
Ahead of Apple’s new smartphone series, a Weibo leaker called Fixed Focus Digital’s leaks are shaping consumers’ expectations for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. Notably, these leaks hint at the visible changes in the designs, camera, and battery life.
Already, the iPhones are covering the major portion of the Indian smartphone market; the 18 series could notch it up with improved performance and battery life.
Rumored/ Leaked Features of Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro Series
New Design Changes
Until now, Apple has presented a pill-shaped cutout and Dynamic Island for its smartphone, but that is about to change. Leaked renders and early test units hint at Apple’s intent to change that as they are experimenting with moving the Face ID component under the display.
Notably, Dynamic Island may also look different, with its placement shifting closer to the front camera, taking up less space. Despite the changes, it would not compromise its functions of supporting live activities, music controls, navigation cues, etc.

If they succeed, the visible pill-shaped cutout will change into a single hole for the front camera. Another major difference can be in the camera position. Per recent reports, the camera might shift to the top-left corner instead of the center.
Overall, the front designs will have the most changes. On the back, there will be changes but subtle ones, like tweaks in the back glass finish and its blends into the aluminum frame. Some new color variation rumors are also spreading.
According to rumors, the Pro lineup is to have dark shades like deep purple, burgundy, and even coffee-like brown being tested internally.
Amid these changes, one thing expected to stay the same is the triple camera setup on a raised module in both the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.
Camera Upgrades
The leaks hint at some of the major upgrades in the Camera. The current iPhone model has a fixed aperture, which allows the lens to adjust the light, but the new iPhone 18 Pro Max will carry a variable aperture, making it simpler to bring natural background blur and better low-light shots.
Note that this feature is reported to come in the Pro Max series, not in all models.
Samsung’s three-layer stacked image sensor is another upgrade, which could improve readout speeds, reduce image noise, and offer better dynamic range. Additionally, both the main and telephoto cameras are tipped to feature larger apertures.

This would benefit in night photography and video recording. Also, it’s rumored to ship with a triple rear camera setup, led by a 48-megapixel primary sensor with optical image stabilisation. A 48-megapixel ultra-wide lens and a 48-megapixel periscope telephoto camera offering up to 4x optical zoom might accompany that.
For better selfies and video calls, Apple may introduce a 24-megapixel front camera.
Display, Chipset, Battery, and Connectivity

Display
No changes in the size would happen per the current reports. The iPhone 18 Pro will retain the 6.3-inch screen, whereas the Pro Max will come with a 6.9-inch panel. As already mentioned, the Dynamic Island will have changes, so with that, the front will look cleaner.
Chipset
Apple is reportedly introducing the A20 Pro chipset, built on TSMC’s upcoming 2nm process. More importantly, the chip is expected to use a new packaging method: RAM placed directly on the same wafer as the CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine.
This way, it could improve speed, efficiency, and heat management. Experts estimate that it could improve the performance by 15% and power efficiency by 30%.
On the software side, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is expected to ship with iOS 27.
Battery
Battery upgrades are also significant, especially in the iPhone 18 Pro Max, which will have a 5,100 mAH battery and support for roughly 40W fast charging. Although this would make the phone slightly thicker and heavier (weight beyond 240 grams), it would have longer battery life.
Connectivity
The iPhone 18 Pro Max is likely to feature Apple’s next-generation C2 modem. With this, network performance is expected in regions where mmWave is available.

What can be the Price of iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max at Launch in India?
The launch date of iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max is in September 2026, as usual to its schedule. With months to the official launch, the leaks have hinted at the potential changes, but the price remains uncertain for now.
Experts suggest that it would go higher than the last series, iPhone 17, whose Pro model currently costs Rs 1,34,900 and Pro most sells for Rs 1,49,900, in India.
A rough estimated number is Rs 1,54,900 for the 256GB variant.

Should You Upgrade?
Since there’s limited information on the iPhone 18 Pro series, there’s a divided take on whether users should upgrade or not. Although the leaks do suggest major changes in the upcoming series, some experts allege that the difference is minor.
First, they should wait for Apple to release all the information on new models; only then can a comparison be made. More importantly, an upgrade makes sense for people who carry an iPhone 14 Pro or older version, as for them it’s a massive upgrade.
However, for the more recent version, especially the iPhone 16 or 17 Pro, an upgrade isn’t necessary, unless they require a clean screen, variable aperture, and alleged 2-day battery life.
