Not only that, it is priced even cheaper for students and teachers, presenting a great opportunity to have a MacBook this year. Some users claim that it is a perfect amalgam of the MacBook Air and the iPad. Is it? Let’s discuss.

Apple’s MacBook Neo Launched in India: Pricing and Availability

Apple has successfully expanded its Mac lineup with its cheapest laptop, the MacBook Neo, and at just the price of ₹69,999 (256GB storage model). More importantly, its price starts at ₹59,900 for students and teachers, under the education pricing. The one with 512 GB + Touch ID Model costs ₹79,900.

No doubt, it is the company’s cheapest MacBook in years and costs even less than most of the recently launched iPhones, as they cost nearly ₹1,00,000 or even higher in the case of the top version. Although the MacBook Neo has been unveiled, its retail in the physical stores will begin on March 11, 2026, but people can pre-order it already.

There’s also bank discounts and no cost emi options available on certain banks, so make sure to check them out as well. Notably, Neo’s unveiling aligns with the launch of Apple’s updated MacBook Air and Pro, whose pre-order window is also open.

Key Specifications of the MacBook Neo

Although the rumors of the launch of the budget-friendly MacBook were out, not many anticipated it to be this cheap. Notably, despite the low price, MacBook Neo brings a premium design and modern performance, perfect for students, writers, or people with lighter workloads.

The key specifications are: –

Design and Display

The MacBook Neo features a 13-inch Liquid Retina display (500 nits), which the brand claims is brighter than most costly Windows laptops. More importantly, it will deliver the sharpness and color accuracy the brand is popular for. In design, it features an aluminum chassis, which is built from recycled material. It is portable as it weighs just 1.23 kg and has a fanless design.

MacBook Neo Color Options

It comes in four exciting colors: Silver, Blush (Pink), Indigo (Deep Blue), and Citrus (Yellow). The color is specially chosen to appear more appealing to first-time Mac users.

Interestingly, the color options are gaining attraction on social media platforms, where many users have asked: “Why is it so budget-friendly despite these beautiful colors?”

While this cost-efficient launch is loved by the users, Apple’s iPhone 17e launch is also getting attention for the same reasons.

Performance

It is cost-efficient because it is not powered by Apple’s typical M-series processors. Instead, it is powered by the A18 Pro chip (6-core CPU, 5-core GPU), which was previously seen in the iPhone 16 Pro. Despite that, it is highly efficient and perfect for everyday productivity, media consumption, AI features, and more.

Additionally, it runs macOS with full Apple Intelligence support, so it can enable on-device AI capabilities and smarter workflows directly integrated into the system experience.

Storage, Battery, and Charging

It comes in two storage options, with the 256GB as the standard one, and the other is 512 GB. As already mentioned above, there’s a significant price difference, and the higher version also features Touch ID.

Note that the RAM is fixed at 8GB Unified Memory and is not upgradeable per the information available at the present time.

Talking of the battery, Apple claims that the MacBook Neo can run for up to 16 hours, which is not a big difference from the standard Air, which has 18 hours of battery life. It comes with two USB-C ports and a 3.5mm jack, but it does not support MagSafe.

Comparison of MacBook Neo vs MacBook Air (M5) vs iPad Pro (M4)

The MacBook Neo fits somewhere between the MacBook Air (M5) and iPad Pro (M4). This is because it is a Mac, cheaper than the Air model, yet as handy as the iPad. At the moment, its compact, handy design and low cost put it ahead in terms of popularity compared to other models.

However, the MacBook Air and iPad Pro have their own significant features. Here’s the side-by-side comparison: –

Which One Should You Get?

Between the MacBook Air and Neo, the latter should only be considered by students, casual users, and writers with limited needs. For heavy lifting work like video-editing, multi-tasking, and others, the Air is a suitable option.

So, it basically depends on the requirements of the users. If someone just needs a Mac at an affordable price, they can consider it, as experts claim that it is still 50% faster than most budget-friendly Windows options.

Between the MacBook Neo and iPad Pro, the latter is costlier and would require a Magic Keyboard to function like a laptop, which itself will cost double the base Neo’s price.

The MacBook Neo is the right option here for someone who requires a real computer. However, if the requirement is touch screen, drawing features, an actual iPad will be better.

Also, it is important to note that the 256 GB Neo doesn’t include Touch ID or a backlit keyboard, which may not be ideal for all. The Touch ID is available in the 512 GB model.
