As global tech leaders convene in New Delhi for the India AI Impact Summit 2026, one name has suddenly taken the spotlight after the withdrawal of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates from his keynote address. Ankur Vora is the president of the Africa and India Offices of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He is now stepping in to represent the foundation at the summit, assuring the organization’s continued presence at the event. Gates’ decision to cancel the keynote speech amid heightened public attention after his name was seen in recently released Epstein files, although the foundation did not directly link his absence to that controversy.

Ankur Vora is a senior leader at the Gates Foundation with a broad mandate managing two major regions, Africa and India. These two regions are central to the foundation’s global mission to enhance health, expand opportunities for various numbers of people, and reduce poverty. His primary role is to share strategy, advise the organisation’s senior leadership on major decisions, and oversee how resources are allocated across diverse programmes. His work involves close interaction with governments, policymakers, and partner organisations to drive real-world impact, mainly in areas like healthcare, education, nutrition, and development.
Before joining the Gates Foundation in 2013, Vora had a distinguished career that included leadership roles in development and strategy. In addition, he served as the director of programs at the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, where he managed critical development investments across Africa and South Asia. Before that, he was a principal with the Boston Consulting Group and also taught economics at the University of Chicago, showing a mix of analytical expertise and practical development experience.
Ankur Vora was a student of Computer Science and has done his graduation from Birla Institution of Technology and Science(BITS) Pilani. In addition, he has done his PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago, making him one of the foundation’s most credentialed leaders.
