Sunrisers Hyderabad is hit by another injury blow as Jack Edwards, who the franchise signed for Rs 3 crore in the IPL 2026 mini auction is ruled out of the IPL 2026. England pacer David Payne has been named as his replacement ahead of their opening match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

As per The Times of India, Payne has been signed for Rs 1.5 crore. Jack Edwards is now ruled out of IPL 2026 with a foot injury.Â
Who is David Payne? stats

David Alan Payne is an English left-arm fast medium bowler and is 35 years old. He made his debut in 2009 for Gloucestershire. In addition, he has also represented England at the U-19 level both in one-day internationals and in test matches.
He has played 233 T20s, with more than 300 wickets and an average of 21.16 and an economy rate of 8.03. Moreover, he is Gloucestershire’s leading wicket taker in T20 cricket. He was also the highest wicket-taker in the 2024 T20 blast with 33 wickets in 17 innings.

He has played in the BBL and was also the player of the match in the BBL15 final (2025-26), and took 3 crucial wickets and conceded only 18 runs. It helped the Perth Scorchers to get their sixth title against the Sydney Sixers.
Payne has also played two seasons of the ILT20 for Desert Vipers.
Pat Cummins to Miss IPL 2026 First Phase

As per reports, Pat Cummins is expected to miss the first phase of IPL 2026. He was injured and is now recovering from a lower back injury. In addition, he last played in the third test in Adelaide and has since missed some series, along with the T20 World Cup 2026.
Further, in his absence, Ishan Kishan is all set to lead the side, along with Abhishek Sharma as a vice captain.Â
