IPL 2026 trophy amid Iran-Israel-US war impact concerns over tournament schedule

The Iran-Israel-US war is taking a bigger turn, with continuous strikes between the countries affecting the broader Middle East. Experts fear the war may continue for days and even weeks, which could entirely disrupt the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 for various reasons. So will the IPL be cancelled? Let’s discuss.

IPL 2026 to Begin Soon, but Cancellation Odds Loom Over War

After a significant delay in the IPL 2026 schedule release due to the Assembly Elections in South India, another threat looms over the tournament. After much thought, March 28 was announced as the beginning date for the tournament, and May 31 as the end date, but that may or may not happen now.

Notably, a war has begun in the Middle East since February 28, 2026, with the U.S. and Israel jointly attacking Iran, and Iran retaliating. Already, the conditions aren’t the best to host such a grand tournament, the war is impacting air travel, and more.

Additionally, there’s also conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan, as airstrikes were reported between the two in the last few days.

Why the Iran-Israel-US War May Impact IPL 2026?

With the U.S. assassinating Iran’s Supreme Leader, Iran has attacked Dubai and neighboring emirates, closing the international airports in the region. Also, the hubs in Doha and Abu Dhabi have been closed.

Notably, IPL 2026 has many overseas players who will need the transit hubs of the Middle East to travel to India for the tournament. The issue is especially for the players arriving from England, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand, as the flights from there have a transit hub in the UAE.

If the conditions remain the same (closed airports), these players would face transit problems, creating a major issue. Besides, no one wants to risk the safety of these players, coaches, and other staff.

Is the IPL 2026 Cancelled?

Despite the escalating conditions in the Middle East, no official announcement on the cancellation or delay of IPL 2026 has been made yet. Note that the BCCI has not talked about the situation yet, and no credible sources have mentioned any such kind of report.

As a result, the IPL 2026 will follow the schedule of 28 March 2026 to 31 May 2026. Additionally, there are direct flights and Southeast Asian hubs like Singapore or Bangkok, which can be considered for the tournament to continue.

Note that the complete schedule for IPL 2026 is yet to be announced, but all 10 teams have already begun preparing for the season.
