India won the U19 World Cup for the sixth time, led by a rampaging century by Vaibhav Suryavanshi in Harare on Friday. With a 100-run win, India defeated England, and the 14-year-old prodigy became the highlight of the match.

IND vs ENG U19 World Cup Final Match Summary

India, led by Ayush Mhatre, began with the right spirit and chose to bat, setting a 411 score in just 50 overs, the highest ever in the U19 World Cup final. Notably, England also gave a tough battle, but ended up crumbling in front of this 400+ target, giving the win to India. 

In this, Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the top performer of the match from the India side, putting 175 score in just 80 balls. The Indian bowlers also put up a tough challenge against England as they kept picking up wickets. 

On the England side, Caleb Falconer kept the challenge, scoring 115 runs in 67 balls.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi Brings India’s 6th U19 World Cup Title 

The 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has become a prodigy after this match, with experts calling it the greatest innings in the history of this age group cricket. His 175 runs off just 80 balls pushed India to win its sixth title of the U19 World Cup. 

India previously won in 2000, 2008, 2012, 2018, and 2022. This win cemented their dominance in this tournament’s history. On the other side, England have been trying to win a title since 1998.

Suryavanshi hit 15 fours and 15 sixes, setting the record for a single Youth ODI. He hit another milestone during this IND vs ENG final match: a 55-ball century, which is the second fastest in the history of the U19 World Cup.

Australia’s Will Malajczuk is the first, as he had a 51-ball effort against Japan earlier in this tournament.

Also, in 71 balls, Suryavanshi scored 150, which is also the fastest in U19 cricket, and finally shattered Unmukt Chand’s 2012 record of 111 in a final match. 

Notably, he is also the first player to hit over 100 sixes in the Youth ODI format.

Other Key Moments From the Final Match

India faced a significant setback with Aaron George’s wicket in the 4th over, but things worked out with the batter Suryavanshi and skipper Ayush Mhatre creating a 142-run partnership. 

At the 26th over, Suryavanshi fell, India was just at 251/3, concerning at the moment. However, the team crossed the 400 mark thanks to Vihaan Malhotra, Abhigyan Kundu, RS Ambrish, and Kanishk Chouhan.

 

Although India won by 100 runs, England fought the battle until the end. Their openers, Ben Dawkins and Ben Maye, gave a quick start, scoring 66 and 45. Later, Caleb Falconer scored the much-needed century, grabbing 115 of 67 balls. 

However, he lacked support, leading to the loss, as the Indian bowlers continued taking the wickets. RS Ambrish led the win with 3 wickets, supported by Deepesh Devendran and Kanishk Chouhan, who took 2 wickets each.
