Jaiswal Sets the Tone with an Aggressive Start

Yashasvi Jaiswal used a flurry of boundaries to counter Deepak Chahar in the very first over stretching his arms and boundary carrying a wave of confidence. He raked up 22 runs just from the first over alone, with a combination of four boundaries and a six.

Jaiswal finished with a score of a superb 77 not out off only 32 balls, including 10 fours and 4 sixes, with a strike rate of 240.63. It took him only 23 deliveries to notch up his 50 and the cheers and the adjectives kept coming as he was never seen even attempting to slow down in any stage of his innings. With this inning, Jaiswal also leapt to the peak of the Orange Cap standings in IPL 2026.

Sooryavanshi Hits Bumrah for Back-to-Back Sixes

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made an immediate impact from the other end. The 15-year-old was so eager to face Jasprit Bumrah that he lined up the very first ball that came his way and sent it over for a six and then hit him again for a six in the same over, becoming the first player in the history of the IPL to hit Bumrah back-to-back sixes in one over.

He amassed 39 runs from 14 balls, registering a strike rate of an enormous 278.57. The opening duet scored 80, with MI enduring 9 sixes being hit off Bumrah and Chakravarthy, a platform that MI could hardly recover from in a curtailed game.

Rajasthan Royals Maintain Momentum After Losing Wickets

Rajasthan Royals lost two quick wickets soon after the dismissal of Sooryavanshi, who was caught at the boundary off Shardul Thakur, and Dhruv Jurel was trapped lbw by Ghazanfar. After five overs, RR had reached 80/1, and in the midst of an RR wobble, captain Riyan Parag made sure the rate of scoring did not slow down, hitting a handy 20 off 9.

Very economical with the ball, Hardik Pandya was the pick of the Mumbai Indians’ bowlers, giving away only 17 runs in his two overs, but even he could not stop the pulling back of runs by Rajasthan Royals who ended on 150/3 from their 11 overs.

Mumbai Indians Lose Three Wickets Inside Three Overs

With a target of 151 from 66 balls, Mumbai Indians were in need of a heavily-scoring start. On the contrary, the wickets went down one after the other. Ryan Rickelton, Rohit Sharma, and Suryakumar Yadav had all been set down pretty cheaply and quite frantically MI was at 23 for 3 inside the first three overs. Rohit even went for a review of his LBW dismissal by Sandeep Sharma, but the ball-tracking showed it hitting the middle stump, the review was lost, and so was MI’s most experienced batter.

Things did not get any better. MI were a worrying 46 for 5 by the fifth over, and the asking rate was already unattainable at that point. Jofra Archer, who is a bowler balling against his ex-team, has always been very precise and in this match, too, he kept up his good bowling and finished with the figures of 1/17 in 2 overs, while Nandre Burger took Suryakumar’s wicket by a well-disguised slower ball.

Bishnoi Wraps It Up as Bowlers Share the Spoils

Ravi Bishnoi

Coming in as an impact substitute, Ravi Bishnoi provided the decisive breakthrough for Rajasthan, who got two batsmen in the same over Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma and by that time MI were 54 for 5 after only 5.3 overs.

Sherfane Rutherford was a blinder with his 25 not out from just 8 balls, Naman Dhir also did his bit with 25 from 13, but the target was way too far. Besides Bishnoi 2/25, Sandeep Sharma (2/26) and Nandre Burger (2/21) all returned to the wicket in the different phases as Mumbai Indians were 123/9 in the end.

What This Means for Both Teams

The performance of Rajasthan Royals was a showcase of the complete package with all-round significant contributions being made. Winning all of their three games so far, having a stable batting line-up, and a bowling unit that is skillful in varying their deliveries, very possibly the Royals are one of the teams that have understood the game really well this season.

Where Mumbai Indians are concerned they have now lost two on the trot. They won their opener against KKR, but from that point, they have not been able to find their feet. Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Bumrah have still not been able to solve the puzzle to work efficiently together in the same game, and that is indeed a big concern. Their top-order batting really requires urgent fixing before the faces get even tougher in the points table.
