IPL vs. PSL and Other Major Leagues Prize Money Comparison
Cricket is a widely followed sport, which is why there are various IPL-like events happening all around the world. Notably, there’s a major gap in terms of viewership and prize money among these major leagues, but some like SA20 and ILT20 are attempting to bridge the distance.
Here’s the prize money comparison of the major cricket leagues: –
| League (2026) | Winner Prize Money (USD) | Winner Prize Money (INR) |
|---|---|---|
| IPL (India) | $2.4 Million | ₹20.0 Crore |
| SA20 (South Africa) | $1.8 Million (R32.5M) | ₹15.5 Crore |
| WPL (Women’s IPL) | $720,000 | ₹6.0 Crore |
| PSL (Pakistan) | $500,000 | ₹4.5 Crore |
| MLC (USA) | $450,000 (est.) | ₹4.0 Crore |
| BBL (Australia) | $300,000 (est.) | ₹2.7 Crore |
| The Hundred | £150,000 | ₹1.84 Crore |
Why this Massive Gap in Prize Money?
Notably, the Indian Premier League is one of the most popular cricket tournaments. The Indian audience contributes majorly to its viewership, but other nations also interact thanks to the participation of global players, worldwide broadcasts, and more.
The same explains the gap in prize money, as it depends significantly on viewership, league valuation, brand deals, media rights, and more. Reportedly, IPL earns nearly $13.4 million per match from its broadcast deal, which is higher than PSL’s entire 4-year media rights deal, valued at $93 million for 2026-2029.

Speaking of franchise valuation, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) was valued at 1.78 billion (during stake sale) in early 2026. Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are also at a similar level.
No other league’s franchise valuation comes near these marks. It is reported that the valuation of PSL’s all franchises combined is only $260 million. Not to forget the auction factors, where it has broken records by buying players like Rishabh Pant and Cameron Green for more than ₹25 crore.
Although PSL also began to follow the auction models in 2026, the salary cap is below that of the IPL. WPL 2026 data reveals that an IPL team’s salary purse is ₹120 crore ($14.5M), but the PSL’s is ₹14 crore ($1.6 million).
