The news that Ranbir Kapoor is covering a double role has made a huge wave in Bollywood. Now the actor confirms that he is playing a double role in Ramayana, the fans were suspecting it for a long time.
In Nitesh Tiwari’s high-budget mythological epic, Ranbir Kapoor will be portraying Lord Rama and Lord Parshurama, among other two divine incarnations of Lord Vishnu. The unveiling of the move took place after a few weeks of speculation that was started by teaser visuals and viral clips online.

Ranbir Kapoor Calls It a “Fantastic Opportunity”
Ranbir Kapoor, who until now had been silent about it, in fact, briefly interacted with international media, responding to the duo role as a well-earned, rare treat.
He points out that acting both the avatars of Vishnu in a single movie is something which “doesn’t happen very often” and thus it is a “fantastic opportunity” for an actor.
This statement is in line with the ones suggesting that the movie would shed light on the hidden links of mythology and merge two different periods and personalities through one actor.
How Ranbir Kapoor Played Two Completely Different Gods?
What really differentiates this narrative is the way Ranbir has chosen to tackle the situation of playing two characters who are poles apart in nature.
In the actor’s view, changing into a different character was, however, not only a matter of looks, but an in-depth emotional change as well.
- He distinguished serenity from violence through different body postures.
- He made use of different tones of speech to depict emotional opposition.
- He immersed himself in the spiritual level and character motivations for both characters almost for a whole year.
So, Lord Rama by him is an embodiment of harmony, elegance, and self-control, whereas Parshurama is the personification of fury, vehemence, and strength, hence it was very important to him to ensure there were no similarities between the two performances.

Did the Teaser Hint at Lord Parshurama?
Speculation about a double role by Ranbir Kapoor had started circulating well before the actor’s announcement thanks to the early visuals and teaser glimpses of the Ramayana.
Although the teaser doesn’t make a clear reference to Lord Parshurama, fans observed multiple short, strong visual scenes and very different character moods that became the reason for extensive debate on the internet about the inclusion of another powerful Vishnu incarnation in the storyline.
These minuscule signs alone stirred up people’s interest on the web, considering the majestic and mythological nature of the movie. Nonetheless, at that time no one was officially asked to confirm, and it was all about one’s interpretation.
Now that Ranbir Kapoor has disclosed that he can portray both Lord Rama and Lord Parshurama, the initial speculations make sense they were actually hinting that the film might have multiple layers of storytelling where both the avatars are connected in one single cinema experience.

Why Is This Double Role a Big Cinematic Twist?
The double role is not a mere show-off in casting but a storytelling approach that carries the mythological world.
Although Rama and Parshurama are both Lord Vishnu’s incarnations, as per the scripture, they occupy two different periods and represent contrasting beliefs. That one moment of confrontation which is heavy in power has become a folk scene of the Ramayana story.
Having one performer play both roles may be a way for the film to enormously symbolically link the two divine incarnations by enriching the story on emotional and philosophical levels.
