Leaked Features and Details of the 2026 Toyota Fortuner

The car has already been seen on the mule sightings, and certain leaks have revealed quite a lot of information around the specs and features.

Design and Exterior

According to the leaks, the new Gen-3-Toyota Fortune will adopt the ‘mini Land Cruiser’ aesthetic. It is said that it looks like it will be more aggressive and evolved. Experts anticipated a much more upright and squared-off front fascia with a large polygonal grille.

Additionally, reports claim that the headlamps will move to a split LED design. The DRLs will likely sit high near the hood and the main projectors lower on the bumper.

On the rear, there will be a full-width LED light bar connected to the taillamps. Also, it will feature a prominent FORTUNER lettering across the tailgate instead of the current individual tail-lamp units.

There are also rumors around the company planning to add a panoramic sunroof, upgraded climate control, and a suite of ADAS.

Interior and Tech

Although the reported exterior changes and upgrades are significant, the  2026 models are taking an even bigger leap in the interior. The current Toyota Fortuner model features hard plastics on the dashboard and the door pads. The new model will replace that with Soft-touch leatherette.

The brand is also focusing significantly on the ride quality. They will likely replace the current heavy hydraulic setup with a new platform or even move to an electric power steering for easier driving.

Tech upgrades are getting considered as the leaks suggest the addition of 12.3-inch screens, Over-the-Air (OTA) updates, a 360-degree high-definition camera, upgraded JBL audio, and more.

Engine, Performance, and More

The 2026 Toyota Fortuner model is expected to come with a hybrid engine tech, including a 48V mild-hybrid system paired with the 2.8L diesel engine across higher trims. Notably, there’s also some reports that claim that it will feature a 3.0L V6 diesel hybrid or a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant for specific global markets.

The 48V mild-hybrid system is designed not only for fuel economy but also to provide an electric torque boost at low speeds. This will eliminate “turbo lag,” resulting in the SUV bringing better response in stop-and-go traffic. Also, it will provide smoother restarts via the Integrated Starter Generator (ISG).
